Honestly, I think that's the worst case scenario. Dr said he'd be willing to help, surely he could help us at least maintain our most essential words on one server (Survival, Creative, PvP)? If we sacrifice too much, we'll lose too many people and just end up killing ourselves. Does Coffee have any experience with plugins?
Not really. I have put up temp servers before now for friends etc, but nowhere near on the scale or complexity of our server. Free time is also likely to be an issue with me, just not felt like playing minecraft lately (the lack of texture pack updates shows this).
Hi guys, I feel sorry for you now that everything is gonna change. I dont think that people will remember me but I used to play on this server (maybe coffeejunky wil remember me). I left this server because I started my own dutch server and I really understand what DrMad is talking about, cause I encountered a similair thing. I dont think that my experience with running a server is on the same level as of DrMad or Oliver thought I'd like think my server is pretty nice. My point is if you guys have any questions I'd gladly whould like to do my best to help you guys out. And I wish you all the best of luck and lots of fun in playing minecraft.
We are discussing possibilities among the admins currently. We may be reducing temporarily, or we may allow another person(s) who is interested to take command, and ideally perhaps when the rpg server is finished I can devote a bit more time to the main server again.
I think if we were to separate the pve and pvp to two different servers a lot of the problems we're having would be easier to fix, especially if we use something like this, http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/transporter/ which allows you to make gates to transport players between different servers.
May I know what problems you guys endured using a multi-world setup? At the moment I have a survival/creative/testworld(for redstone stuff) and we are also beginning a rpg-world.
Well... There is no problem at all! Dr is just resigning and there is no one more intelligent in plugin managing than Dr and Oli that can take over... And also Dr is completely leaving... he will still be helping occasionally from what I've heard. And I'm pretty sure no one here really cares about ur server that much... No offense
I wish you luck, you are definitely going to run into some compatibility and plugin issues. Once you start adding worlds and more and more plugins to manage them you open yourself up to a plethora of problems. The real problem being that most plugins are written and maintained by hobbyists who have little concern for compatability with other plugins. Also our particular setup was highly dependent on a lot of now defunct plugins (though i mostly fixed that issue now). It becomes difficult to manage a server when you start running more plugins on it than the average amount of players that are online (I wish that was a joke). On another note however, I am discussing options that would allow me to continue managing the main server on a much less large scale. No matter what happens, I will keep you informed and in the loop whenever I can.
I want to keep the community informed, so at this point, the TENTATIVE plan is to have DrMad run a 2-world server once 1.3 launches, with our current build and PvP maps. At this point, I do not believe we have anyone else in the community who is both skilled enough and trustworthy enough to run the full-fledged multiworld server as we have it set up now. We'll need to move to something simpler to manage for the time being.
This all sounds so unfortunate. Will the unused worlds be preserved if we downgrade to only using 1 or 2 worlds?
Yes! I will absolutely preserve all the worlds in the hopes that we may oneday return to them. I'll also try to make them available via download or torrent, though I still haven't found a preferred way of doing so.
I'd believe that they should keep build and survival, but alter survival so that it includes pvp, as a server will need to most suit peoples liking. and there would be a pure survival area and a pvp area which is big. Just my input
I think legoinaire should take the job because he is very good with computers and has the time to work on the server
What I don't get, is why Dr is leaving to maintain another server while the main one is still unstable.
Because the RPG server is a much smaller project that the main server. The main server is a bit of an untamable beast at this point.
If we do go back down to 1 world/2 I say we start fresh. Yea you guys will be complaining because the maps haven't been there that long but in 1.3 A new world type will be available. Which is big biomes, this may sound like a load of junk but in the long term. Starting fresh will be more enjoyable, still keep the maps on standby but start fresh. Also, with that plugin loader posted it could be possible to have pvp hosted on the play.minecraftcc.com:23456 and still be able to talk to them and cross to that server. Inputting like sgt said
Ah, I wasn't aware we'd have yet another new biome... Perhaps we can do one map fresh and keep one map. Or put it up for a vote. We'll see...
Is it possible/feasable to delegate server duties to a few people iether on a schedule basis or by segments or tasks?? It seems it becomes overwhelming time wise for one person to handle.
Sgt it is coming, its currently in a snapshot. Source - http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Large_Biomes
